New Delhi: In a detailed briefing to Army Chiefs of United Nations Troop-Contributing Nations, Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy), said Operation Sindoor was a decisive tri-services campaign launched in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 tourists.
Lt Gen Ghai stated that the assault on Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination located 7,000 feet above sea level, was carried out by terrorists operating from across the Line of Control (LoC). “The strikes were precise and calibrated to ensure there was no collateral damage, reflecting India’s commitment to ethical warfare and operational restraint,” he said.
Highlighting the historical context, Ghai noted that over 100,000 people—mostly minorities, including 60,000 families—have been displaced from Jammu and Kashmir since the 1990s, with 15,000 civilians and over 3,000 security personnel losing their lives to terrorism.
