New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday extended her greetings to the people on the occasion of Nuakhai, describing the festival as a symbol of gratitude toward the farming community.

Nuakhai, a major agrarian festival celebrated in parts of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and neighbouring regions, marks the harvest of new crops and is observed with traditional rituals, community feasts, and cultural performances. The festival is deeply rooted in rural life and is considered a time to honour the toil and dedication of farmers.

In her message, President Murmu said the festival offers an opportunity to acknowledge the role of farmers in ensuring the country’s food security and prosperity. She urged citizens to celebrate the occasion with harmony and collective spirit while keeping alive the traditions that strengthen rural communities.

“Nuakhai is an occasion to pay gratitude to our farmers whose hard work sustains the nation. May this festival bring happiness, prosperity, and unity among all,” she said.
