New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to present the Union Budget 2025 on February 1, continuing her streak as the longest-serving Finance Minister to present consecutive budgets. This will be her eighth consecutive Union Budget, surpassing the previous record of six consecutive budgets presented by Morarji Desai.

The Budget 2025 will also be the second full budget of the Modi government's third term, making it a crucial fiscal roadmap as India aims for sustained economic growth. Sitharaman’s tenure as Finance Minister has been marked by transformative policy decisions, including the rollout of GST, initiatives for digital and green economies, and significant reforms in the banking and infrastructure sectors.

While Sitharaman's record of eight consecutive budgets is unprecedented, Morarji Desai still holds the record for the most budgets presented overall, with 10 budgets—eight annual and two interim. Historically, there have also been rare instances where Prime Ministers stepped in to present the budget. For example, Jawaharlal Nehru presented the budget in 1958 after Finance Minister T. T. Krishnamachari resigned due to the Mundhra scam, and Indira Gandhi presented it in 1970 after Morarji Desai resigned in 1969.

Budget presentations are traditionally delivered at 11 am, and Sitharaman will follow this tradition for the Union Budget 2025. Expectations are high as the government is likely to address critical economic priorities, including job creation, inflation control, and investments in infrastructure.
