BJP MP Bishnupada Roy raises concerns over delays in NH-4 renovation in Andaman. Despite repeated efforts and assurances, key roadwork remains incomplete, affecting residents of the region.
In a passionate appeal, Bishnupada Roy, the BJP MP from Andaman and Nicobar Islands, expressed frustration over the prolonged delay in the renovation of National Highway 4 (NH-4), a critical infrastructure connecting the archipelago's districts. A native of Ashoknagar in Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, Roy has emerged as a vocal advocate for Andaman's development in Parliament.
Roy has been persistently raising the issue with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari since 2016. While some progress has been made with the first phase of the project, significant sections from Baratang to Mayabunder in the North and Middle Andaman districts remain unfinished. Despite repeated assurances, including a visit by Gadkari to Port Blair in July, the MP highlighted that the project’s second phase has yet to begin.
In a video statement, Roy detailed his numerous visits to Delhi and personal meetings with Gadkari to emphasize the urgency of the NH-4 renovation. However, the lack of action has left him and Andaman residents deeply concerned.
With hopes pinned on the new year, Roy remains cautiously optimistic. “The completion of this work is not just a matter of infrastructure but a lifeline for the people of Andaman,” he said, urging immediate attention to the matter.
