India on Friday solemnly remembered the brave security personnel who laid down their lives while defending Parliament during the terrorist attack on December 13, 2001, with President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading the nation in paying tributes to the martyrs.

In a post on social media, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recalled the extraordinary courage and alertness displayed by those who confronted the attackers under grave danger. He said the nation would forever remain grateful for their supreme sacrifice, underlining that their unwavering sense of duty saved the country’s democratic institution from a major assault. “In the face of grave danger, their courage, alertness and unwavering sense of duty were remarkable,” the Prime Minister said.

President Droupadi Murmu also paid homage to the fallen heroes, describing them as courageous defenders of the nation who protected Parliament at the cost of their lives. In her message, the President said their valour and devotion to duty continue to guide India’s national spirit. She added that the country remains indebted not only to the martyrs but also to their families, who have borne an immeasurable loss in service of the nation.

Reaffirming India’s firm stand against terrorism, President Murmu said the country remains committed to combating terrorism in all its forms. The messages from the President and the Prime Minister echoed a collective resolve to uphold national security and democratic values.
