New Delhi – The Government of India has officially announced that the Monsoon Session of Parliament will be held from July 21 to August 12, 2025, a move that has triggered sharp political reactions, particularly from the opposition.

Congress MP Jairam Ramesh strongly criticised the timing of the announcement, calling it a deliberate attempt to sideline demands for a special session of Parliament. “The Prime Minister can run away from a special session, but he cannot run away from the Monsoon session,” said Ramesh, alleging that the announcement was a political manoeuvre to avoid facing scrutiny over several contentious national issues.

He noted that never in India’s parliamentary history has a session been announced 47 days in advance, calling it “unprecedented” and “clearly a diversionary tactic.”

Ramesh said that the INDIA alliance and Congress have been pressing for a special session to discuss:

  • The Pahalgam terror attack and the alleged lack of accountability

  • The sudden halt of Operation Sindoor

  • Comments by former U.S. President Donald Trump about “Narender ka surrender”

  • The India-Pakistan hyphenation in global discourse

  • The growing China-Pakistan nexus

  • The failure of India's foreign policy

  • The revelations made by the Chief of Defence Staff in Singapore, not domestically

“These are the issues agitating the people of India, and the Prime Minister doesn’t want to face them in Parliament,” said Ramesh.
