New Delhi: The Ministry of Finance held its first pre-budget meeting on December 4, engaging economists in discussions about key economic issues ahead of the upcoming Union Budget.

Co-Convener of Swadeshi Jagaran Manch, Ashwani Mahajan, participated in the meeting and stated that various crucial topics were discussed during the session. According to Mahajan, economists collectively emphasized the importance of attracting more investments into the country.

The meeting also focused on addressing challenges like food inflation, fiscal consolidation, and the need for actionable policies to combat climate change. Mahajan further noted that all economists present were in agreement on the necessity of introducing a manufacturing policy that would encourage domestic production and boost the country's industrial growth.

The discussions are seen as vital inputs for shaping the Union Budget 2024, particularly in terms of creating a conducive environment for investment and addressing key economic concerns. The government's focus on strengthening manufacturing is expected to have long-term implications for India’s economic development.

This is the first of several pre-budget consultations, with more meetings scheduled in the coming weeks to finalize the proposals for the national budget.
