New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday issued a cautionary advisory to Indian nationals regarding illegal employment in Iran following reports of kidnappings. Officials highlighted that some Indians have been targeted by criminal networks upon arrival in the country.

MEA Official Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal explained that while India and Iran maintain a visa-free regime, it is strictly intended for tourism purposes. “There are people and agents who, in connivance with others, have been luring our nationals to go to Iran for employment purposes. The visa-free entry is not meant for employment purposes,” he said.

The MEA advisory aims to raise awareness among citizens about these fraudulent schemes, urging them to avoid offers from individuals or agencies promoting illegal migration. The ministry emphasised that engaging in employment under a tourist visa not only violates regulations but also exposes individuals to potential dangers, including abduction and exploitation.
