By A Staff Reporter: Indian railways is undertaking massive infrastructure development projects worth several thousand crores in the South Eastern Railway. Speaking exclusively to ANM News, chief administrative officer, Construction, South Eastern Railway, Rajeev Srivastava mentioned that laying of third and fourth track and laying lines to connect several dots to decrease distance and time of travelling are on the cards.
Railway officials mentioned that decongesting Kharagpur through two bypass is one of the main target as many trains have to currently take small detours thus wasting time and travelling extra distances. Tracks are being laid to shorten the distance which will cut down on travelling time and decongest Kharagpur railway station, Srivastava said. Railways is also working long on a project to lay third and fourth line in Odisha and Jharkhand section of South Eastern Railway which will facilitate smooth movement of goods and passenger trains. Railways have also initiated major track laying and infrastructure development work around Santragachi railway station to ensure that current train bottleneck and slow movement of trains does not occur in future. Passenger and goods train slow don and stop at Santragachi and take a long time to reach Howrah station but Railway officers mentioned that tracks are being newly laid and infrastructure work is being initiated to tide over it. Srivastava added that on most of these lines automatic signalling will be installed for greater efficiency, safety and security.
