New Delhi: Union Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh on Thursday reported a massive cloudburst in the Chositi area of Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir, warning of possible significant casualties. The information came after Singh spoke to Kishtwar Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Sharma, following an urgent alert from the Leader of Opposition in the J&K Assembly and local MLA Sunil Kumar Sharma.
According to Singh, the district administration responded promptly, with rescue teams dispatched to the affected site without delay. Authorities are currently working on damage assessment while coordinating rescue operations and medical management for potential victims.
The incident has heightened concern among local residents as cloudbursts in hilly terrain often result in flash floods, landslides, and widespread destruction. The challenging topography of the area may pose difficulties for rescue teams attempting to reach the site quickly.
