Manipur Weightlifter Bindyarani Devi Wins Bronze In IWF World Cup

Bindyarani Devi lifted 196 kgs to secure third place. She came behind North Korea’s Kang Hyon Gyong who lifted 234 kgs and Romania’s Cambei Mihaela-Valentina who registered a lift of 201 kgs.

BY A STAFF REPORTER: Indian Weightlifter Bindyarani Devi bagged a bronze medal in the women's 55kg event at the International Weightlifting Federation World Cup in Phuket, Thailand on April 2, Tuesday.

Moreover, Bindyarani Devi lifted 196 kgs to secure third place. She came behind North Korea’s Kang Hyon Gyong who lifted 234 kgs and Romania’s Cambei Mihaela-Valentina who registered a lift of 201 kg. 

Hailing from Manipur, Bindyarani Devi has achieved significant milestones in her career. She secured a gold medal at the 2019 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship and in Clean and Jerk at the 2021 World Weightlifting Championship. Moreover, she clinched a silver medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games with a total lift of 202 kg.

Moreover, Tokyo Olympic silver medallist Saikhom Mirabai Chanu also secured a bronze medal in the women's 49 kg Group B event at the IWF World Cup on Monday. Consequently, she qualified for the Paris Olympics which will be held in July 2024.
