Violence erupts in Manipur, MLA house set on fire, union minister’s residence next target

Manipur situation worsened today with more armed youth of various communities hitting the road and setting houses on fire despite the heavy deployment of security forces.

The security advisor to Manipur government Kuldeep Singh admitted that the house of a local legislator has been set on fire on the outskirts of Imphal. According to local reports, mob was gathering near the house of union minister of state for external affairs and education, and inner Manipur MP, Rajkumar Ranjan Singh.

Sporadic incidents of violence continued throughout the state even though paramilitary forces and army were patrolling the troubled areas. Local residents blamed the government stating that N Biren Singh has completely failed and accused the Centre of not taking any action.
