KOLKATA — West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday launched a fresh attack on the BJP-led central government, accusing it of exploiting citizens through the Aadhaar card system and overburdening them with multiple identification requirements.
Speaking at an event in Kolkata, Banerjee said, “How much did you pay for Aadhaar cards? You (Centre) took ₹1,000 from each person. If you took ₹1,000 from the public to make Aadhaar cards, then why do you still say no Aadhaar card for the voter list, no Aadhaar card for the ration card? Who are you cheating?”
She went on to criticise the multiplicity of documents demanded by government schemes. “How many cards will you make? Ration card, health card, PAN card, Aadhaar card, caste certificate, Kisan card, labour card… The best thing is to make this one change and remove the Delhi government from the country. There will be no need for Aadhaar,” she said.
