Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday paid a heartfelt tribute to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar on Mahaparinirvan Diwas, honouring his towering legacy as the principal architect of the Indian Constitution and one of the nation’s most influential social reformers.
In her message, Banerjee described Ambedkar as an “unparalleled thinker” whose contribution to drafting the Constitution remains “immortal.” She emphasised that the values he enshrined in the founding document continue to guide India’s democratic framework and social justice efforts. “We are committed to protect and strengthen his ideals and principles as enshrined in our Constitution, the guiding light of our democracy,” she said.
The Chief Minister also highlighted West Bengal’s historical connection with Ambedkar’s constitutional journey. “It is our pride that Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar was elected to the Constituent Assembly from the Bengal legislature,” she noted, adding that the state played a crucial part in enabling his monumental work.
Banerjee said Ambedkar’s life and legacy remain a source of inspiration not only for marginalised communities but for all citizens striving towards equality, dignity and justice. His relentless fight against social discrimination, she said, continues to shape India’s vision of an inclusive society.
