BY A STAFF REPORTER: The Maldives Envoy Consisting Ibrahim Shaheeb today reached the Ministry of External Affairs in the south bloc, Delhi on 8th January, Monday.

Ibrahim Shaheeb, the Maldivian High Commissioner, was summoned to the Ministry of External Affairs Office amid a row over Maldivian Member of Parliament's Derogatory comments on India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi

This comes after a few Maldivian MPs passed offensive remarks against PM Modi and his latest visit to Lakshadweep. The Maldives government suspended three MPs, including Mahzoom Majid, Mariyam Shiuna, and Malsha Shareef. The incident resulted in a nationwide outrage and a #BoycottMaldives trend over social networking sites.

Moreover, the Maldivian government distanced itself from the MPs involved in this controversy and subsequently condemned this act, urging Indians to keep coming to India.
