Delhi: Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge sharpened his attack on the government, alleging large-scale manipulation of the electoral process and pledging to build a movement against what he termed as “vote theft.”
Kharge said the Congress party’s position was to raise awareness across the country about irregularities in the voting system, including alleged tampering and manipulation. He argued that such practices amounted to an injustice against citizens and undermined the core principles of democracy.
The Congress leader added that if political power was achieved through such means, it would weaken the legitimacy of governance and erode public trust in institutions. He characterised the alleged manipulation as an attack on the Constitution and said his party would continue to mobilise support to resist such practices.
The remarks come in the midst of intensifying opposition criticism of the Election Commission and the electoral process, with several parties raising questions about voter rolls and polling-day procedures. The government and ruling party leaders, however, have dismissed these allegations, citing judicial decisions and the Commission’s role in safeguarding transparency.
