New Delhi – During the ongoing Lok Sabha debate on Operation Sindoor, DMK MP Kanimozhi expressed both appreciation and criticism, acknowledging the government’s decision to include Opposition MPs in international outreach delegations while simultaneously questioning the necessity behind such measures and the tone of the Home Minister’s address.
“We had to go on these delegations because peace had failed us, and you (the central government) had failed the people of India,” Kanimozhi said, referring to the recent parliamentary delegations sent abroad to explain India's position during the military operation.
In a rare bipartisan note, she added, “For the first time, the BJP has shown some confidence in the Opposition, and they sent us out as leaders of delegations to represent this country. I thank them.” However, she quickly followed with a critique: “But also, I would like to say, if the opportunity to lead these delegations had not arisen, then we would have been happier and more grateful.”
Her comments were aimed at highlighting that the need for such outreach stemmed from diplomatic pressure and internal policy failures, rather than being a mark of healthy political cooperation.
Turning to the tone of the debate, Kanimozhi criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks earlier in the session, stating, “Today, the Home Minister in his speech only intended to blame the Opposition... It has become a blame game.”
