Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday underlined the role of Hindi as a unifying language while addressing the Hindi Rangmanch – Hamari Bhasha, Hamari Pehchaan programme at Tagore Hall. The event was organised to celebrate linguistic identity and cultural heritage.
Speaking on the occasion, Sinha said India’s strength lies in its diversity that extends from the Himalayas to the Indian Ocean. He emphasised that despite this vast cultural and linguistic variety, Hindi serves as a connecting medium across regions. Referring to historical debates during the framing of the Constitution, he noted that members of the Constituent Assembly, including Durgabai from the then Madras Presidency, had voiced strong support for Hindi as the nation’s Rajbhasha (official language).
The Lieutenant Governor highlighted that the recognition of Hindi was not meant to diminish the importance of other Indian languages but to provide a linguistic thread binding the country together. The programme also featured cultural performances and literary presentations underscoring the richness of Hindi literature and its role in shaping national identity.
