Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday reacted to reports of activist Sonam Wangchuk’s arrest, describing the situation as “unfortunate” and expressing concern over the central government’s actions.
Commenting on the developments, CM Abdullah said, “He was arrested? It is unfortunate. Given the way the central government has been after them since yesterday, it seemed like something like this might happen.” He highlighted that promises had been made to Wangchuk and others, noting a pattern of commitments not being upheld.
The Chief Minister questioned the rationale behind the central government’s decisions, stating, “Now I don't understand what compels the central government to renege on promises it makes.” His remarks indicate concern over perceived inconsistencies in policy and the treatment of activists in the region.
