Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has expressed grave concern over the decline in tourist inflow following the recent terror incident in Pahalgam. Addressing the media on Saturday, the CM acknowledged that the state’s tourism sector has taken a significant hit, especially during what is usually its peak summer season.
“Tourism has been hit quite badly after the Pahalgam incident. We hardly have any tourists coming in the summer season,” said Abdullah, noting the economic and social impact on local businesses and workers who depend heavily on tourism for their livelihood.
In response, the government is shifting its attention to ensuring the safety and smooth execution of the upcoming Amarnath Yatra — one of the most significant religious pilgrimages in the region. “We are now focusing on the Amarnath Yatra. We want the Amarnath Yatra to pass incident-free. We want the devotees coming for the Amarnath Yatra to go back safe and sound after their visit,” the CM emphasized.
