Kishtwar, 16 August — The Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah on Friday visited the areas of Kishtwar district affected by a recent cloudburst, meeting with families who have suffered losses and damage. He expressed deep sorrow over the fatalities and destruction caused by the disaster and assured people that the government stands firmly with them in this hour of grief.

As part of immediate relief measures, the Chief Minister announced financial assistance under the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Families of each deceased will receive ₹2 lakh, while those severely injured will be given ₹1 lakh and those with minor injuries ₹50,000. For structural losses, compensation of ₹1 lakh will be provided for fully damaged houses, ₹50,000 for severely damaged ones, and ₹25,000 for partially damaged structures.

The Chief Minister also directed officials to ensure the swift restoration of essential infrastructure in the affected areas. He reiterated that the administration would continue to support the victims and monitor the relief and rehabilitation work closely.
