Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has responded to the growing exodus of tourists from the region following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam. In a series of posts, Abdullah expressed his heartbreak over the tragic incident but acknowledged the understandable concerns of those leaving the valley.
“It’s heartbreaking to see the exodus of our guests from the valley after yesterday’s tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, but at the same time, we totally understand why people would want to leave,” he wrote. Abdullah assured the public that both the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Ministry of Civil Aviation were working together to arrange additional flights to assist in the evacuation.
On the ground, Abdullah revealed that the crucial NH-44 route between Srinagar and Jammu had been partially reopened for one-way traffic. He emphasized that the situation on the road remains delicate, with certain areas still unstable. "I’ve directed the administration to facilitate traffic between Srinagar & Jammu, allowing tourist vehicles to leave. This will be done in a controlled and organised manner, as we continue to clear stranded vehicles," he added.
