Bhubaneswar – External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar emphasized India’s commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment during his address at the fourth plenary session of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas. The session, centered on the theme ‘Diaspora Divas: Celebrating Woman’s Leadership and Influence – Nari Shakti,’ brought global attention to the role of women in shaping the future of nations.
Jaishankar highlighted the significant strides India has made under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, especially in the context of international relations and foreign policy. "Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, a number of issues pertaining to gender equality and women’s development are very much a part of our international activities and foreign policy," Jaishankar stated.
He particularly underscored India’s influence on the global stage, pointing to the G-20 summit where India played a pivotal role in pushing for the concept of women-led development. “In fact, when we check the G-20, we actually had, we pushed very strongly for the concept of women-led development and got it accepted in the G-20 conceptual framework," he said, emphasizing India’s advocacy for gender equality in global policy frameworks.
Jaishankar also discussed India's efforts in development cooperation, particularly with countries of the Global South, highlighting the growing importance of women's leadership in global development agendas. “Secondly, we do a lot of development cooperation, especially with countries of the Global South," he added, underscoring India’s commitment to fostering leadership among women in these regions.
