Mumbai — External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S. Jaishankar underscored Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s diplomatic achievements, particularly his ability to build and sustain relationships with three successive US Presidents. Speaking at the 25th Silver Jubilee Scholarship Program of the Aditya Birla Group, Jaishankar described Modi’s rapport with U.S. leadership as a testament to India’s growing stature and influence on the world stage.
Jaishankar noted, “When PM Modi first came to Washington D.C., President Obama was in office, followed by President Trump, and now President Biden. Despite these changes in leadership, the relationship between the U.S. and India has only grown stronger, thanks to PM Modi’s ability to build rapport with each administration.” He highlighted that Modi was among the first world leaders contacted by President Trump upon taking office, reflecting the respect India commands globally.
The EAM also acknowledged a unique aspect of India’s foreign policy approach: its confidence in relations with the U.S. “While many countries express nervousness regarding the current global stance of the U.S., let’s be honest, we are not one of them,” Jaishankar stated. This confidence, he emphasized, stems from India's consistent and balanced approach to diplomacy, which has led to enhanced trust and strategic alignment between India and the U.S.
Jaishankar’s remarks come at a time when India’s role on the global stage is expanding, especially through its relationships with major powers like the U.S. His comments reflect India’s sustained confidence in its diplomatic strategy, ensuring robust bilateral ties amidst global shifts in political dynamics. The event highlighted not only Modi’s success in fostering strong U.S. relations but also India’s evolving global standing.
