Shankar Jiwal, a 1990 batch IPS officer, currently serving as commissioner of police, Chennai has been promoted as the new director general of police of the state. He will replace C Sylendra Babu, who is retiring on June 30. ANM News was the first to break the news about a couple of weeks earlier. Jiwal, has served both in Tamil Nadu and at Centre in various capacities and was known to be close to former chief minister and DMK founder Karunanidhi, father of current CM MK Stalin. Jiwal had brought about a number of changes in policing in Chennai over the last few months. The IPS officer has earned a tough reputation as a tech savvy hard working police chief.
