Ranchi, Jharkhand — An IndiGo flight en route from Patna to Ranchi made an emergency landing at Birsa Munda Airport on Sunday after it reported a suspected bird hit during descent. The incident occurred approximately 10 to 12 nautical miles from the airport at an altitude of 3,000 to 4,000 feet, according to RR Mourya, Airport Director.

The bird, believed to be a large species—possibly a vulture—struck the aircraft as it was making an inbound turn for landing. Following the impact, the pilot promptly requested an emergency landing as a precautionary measure. The aircraft safely touched down at 13:14 PM, with no injuries reported among the passengers or crew members.

“All passengers are safe, and the aircraft is currently grounded for further inspection and clearance,” Mourya stated. A technical team has begun an assessment to evaluate the extent of any potential damage caused by the bird hit before the aircraft can be cleared for future operations.
