New Delhi: Anil Kumar J Nayak, General Secretary of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), announced a nationwide doctors' strike set for August 17, with emergency and casualty services remaining available. Nayak emphasized recent discussions with Union Health Minister JP Nadda regarding laws to protect doctors and mentioned new directives from the National Medical Commission on security and CCTV management.
He highlighted the poor treatment of the victim's family by hospital administration and called on the National Commission of Women to visit Kolkata. Despite being unable to meet with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Nayak confirmed that demands for improved safety and security for women doctors have been communicated. He warned that the strike represents a critical moment for unity among doctors, stressing the importance of their demands for enhanced security.
