Indian Coast Guard Holds Regional Maritime & Aeronautical SAR Workshop at Paradip

By a Staff Reporter: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) successfully conducted a Regional Maritime and Aeronautical Search and Rescue (SAR) Workshop and Sea Exercise on 14–15 November 2025, under the leadership of the Coast Guard Regional Headquarters (North East) and coordinated by the Commander Coast Guard (Odisha). The event saw active participation from multiple state agencies and stakeholders involved in emergency and maritime response.

Representatives from OSDMA, District Administration, Ports Authorities, Customs, Indian Navy, Marine Police, Odisha Police, CISF, Department of Fisheries, Forest Department, and the District Medical Department joined the two-day program, strengthening inter-agency coordination and preparedness for maritime emergencies.

As India’s national maritime SAR service provider operating under the NMSAR Board, the Indian Coast Guard engaged participants in detailed sessions on SAR protocols, response mechanisms, operational constructs, procedures, and SOP validation. The workshop also featured a tabletop exercise, where agencies jointly simulated various SAR scenarios, reinforcing collaborative responsibility and quick decision-making during emergencies.

The Sea Exercise conducted off the Paradip coast showcased near real-time demonstrations of Mass Rescue Operations, medical triage procedures, and advanced rescue techniques. Assets of the Indian Coast Guard and partner rescue agencies participated, highlighting their operational synergy in both maritime and aeronautical SAR missions.

Officials stated that the exercise significantly enhanced coordination, readiness, and interoperability among SAR stakeholders, further strengthening efforts to ensure safety of life at sea along India’s eastern coast.
