Uttarkashi, Aug 10 — The Indian Army carried out extensive Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations in Dharali and Harsil on Friday, evacuating civilians and providing aid to stranded tourists affected by adverse weather and landslides in the region.

According to official information, a total of 33 helicopter sorties — conducted jointly by the Army and civil aviation authorities — successfully evacuated 195 civilians from the affected areas. Nearly 200 tourists were assisted in crossing mudslide-affected zones to reach the Harsil helipad for onward evacuation.

In addition to the evacuations, the Army arranged food and accommodation for over 110 stranded tourists, ensuring their safety and well-being until transport could be arranged.

The operations come amid heavy rainfall and landslides in Uttarakhand, which have disrupted road connectivity and left several residents and tourists stranded. Rescue efforts are ongoing, with local authorities and disaster response teams coordinating with the Army to ensure timely assistance.
