New Delhi: India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) reiterated its stance on the ongoing crisis in Myanmar, calling for an end to violence and a peaceful resolution through a Myanmar-led and inclusive process. MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal outlined India’s position during a press briefing, highlighting the importance of a genuine federal democracy to address the country’s ethnic issues.

“Our position on Myanmar has been consistent. We call for the cessation of violence and a peaceful resolution of the ethnic issue through the establishment of a genuine federal democracy,” Jaiswal stated.

He stressed that the process of restoring stability in Myanmar must be led and owned by its people. “This process of return of stability should be Myanmar-led and Myanmar-owned, and it should take into account the views of all stakeholders to ensure an inclusive peace and return to stability in Myanmar,” he added.

Jaiswal also acknowledged the unique concerns of countries sharing land boundaries with Myanmar, emphasizing their vested interest in the region’s stability. “The land boundary neighbours of Myanmar have a particular set of concerns as well,” he noted.

India has maintained its engagement with Myanmar while urging all parties to prioritize peace and dialogue. The situation in Myanmar has drawn international attention since the military coup in February 2021, which led to widespread unrest and violence. India’s stance underscores the need for regional stability and a resolution that respects Myanmar’s sovereignty and diverse perspectives.
