Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah on Saturday delivered a stark assessment of the opposition’s national alliance, saying the INDIA bloc is “on life support” and risks being wheeled into the “ICU” if it continues to be plagued by infighting and strategic confusion.
Speaking at a public interaction, Abdullah said the opposition coalition had failed to keep pace with the Bharatiya Janata Party’s well-oiled and ceaseless election machinery. He argued that while the BJP operates with round-the-clock coordination and messaging discipline, the INDIA bloc suffers from inconsistent communication, competing egos and an inability to convert its political intent into organisational strength.
He warned that constant internal disagreements were eroding public confidence in the alliance. “If we continue like this, people will lose faith in us before we even reach the next major electoral battle,” Abdullah remarked, stressing that the coalition must urgently rebuild trust, coherence and strategic focus.
The NC leader urged partners in the bloc to adopt a unified approach, set aside the personal and regional rivalries, and develop a sustained campaign capable of challenging the BJP’s national narrative. Without this, he said, the alliance risks becoming politically irrelevant.
