Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has announced that the state will introduce a cleanliness ranking system for its cities, aimed at fostering competition and improving urban sanitation. The initiative will include rewards for top-performing cities and calls for public participation to ensure success.
Speaking in Panchkula after a meeting with the Urban Local Bodies (ULB) Department, Saini said 18 agendas were tabled, of which 14 were approved and four deferred. The discussions covered urban areas including Yamunanagar, Narwana, Fatehabad, Tohana, Rohtak, Manesar, Rewari, Hisar, Karnal, and Gurugram.
The Chief Minister explained that the new ranking system will be designed to encourage municipalities to adopt best practices in cleanliness and waste management. Citizens, social organisations, and NGOs will be invited to collaborate with local bodies to make cities cleaner and more attractive.
He emphasised that improving cleanliness is a key government priority, linking it to public health, tourism, and overall quality of life. The reward scheme is expected to motivate competition among cities, leading to sustained improvements in urban environments across the state.
