New Delhi: Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has marked a significant achievement in India’s space journey, as a key contributor to the successful launch of the GSLV-F16 mission carrying the NISAR satellite. The Earth observation satellite — a landmark joint initiative between the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) — was launched from Sriharikota on July 30, 2025.

The Department of Defence Production acknowledged HAL’s contribution in a tweet stating, “A significant milestone for Hindustan Aeronautics Limited — a proud partner in the successful launch of GSLV-F16/NISAR from Sriharikota on 30 July 2025. This marks the first joint Earth observation satellite mission by ISRO and NASA.”

The NISAR (NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar) satellite is designed to provide critical data on Earth’s surface changes, including ice-sheet dynamics, deforestation, and natural disasters like earthquakes and floods. It represents a blend of advanced American L-band and Indian S-band radar systems.
