BY A STAFF REPORTER: Ahead of the Vibrant Gujarat Summit, the state Industries, Rural Development, And Civil Aviation Minister unequivocally stated in a press conference that high-level discussions are underway for potential investment from Tesla, the electric vehicle manufacturer owned by Elon Musk.

Further, Elon Musk, Tesla's owner and CEO revealed in June 2023 that he may visit India in 2024 affirming that Tesla will soon build and sell electric vehicles in India following a meeting with India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New York. During that time, Modi was on a four-day visit to the United States. Musk also mentioned that Modi invited him to India.

Elon Musk is eager to bring Tesla to India but due to high import duties, the disagreement has continued. The import tax on completely built units (CBU) is 25 to 100% in India. This hindered Tesla from selling vehicles foreign-built vehicles in India.
