Gandhinagar, July 22: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Tuesday handed over a ₹5 crore cheque to the Bar Council of Gujarat for the Lawyers' Welfare Fund, aimed at supporting legal professionals during times of illness or after death. The move is part of the state’s ongoing commitment to improving the welfare of the legal fraternity under the 2025–26 budget provisions.

The financial support is expected to benefit over 52,000 registered lawyers across the state. According to official figures, more than 3,000 lawyers have already availed medical assistance through the fund, which provides financial relief during serious health issues or to the families of deceased lawyers.

The cheque was formally presented at a ceremony in Gandhinagar attended by Law Minister Rushikesh Patel, Bar Council of Gujarat President J.J. Patel, and other senior officials. The event underscored the government’s emphasis on extending welfare schemes to the legal community, which plays a key role in the justice delivery system.
