Gandhinagar, May 9, 2025: In response to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the Gujarat government has cancelled all forms of leave for officers and employees across state departments, boards, corporations, panchayats, municipal bodies, and autonomous institutions. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel announced the decision via social media, emphasizing the need for full administrative readiness.

“In view of the prevailing situation, all types of leave for officers and employees of all departments and offices of the state government, as well as Boards, Corporations, Panchayats, Municipal Corporations, and autonomous and grant-in-aid institutions, have been cancelled with immediate effect,” Patel stated. He further directed department heads to ensure that personnel currently on leave report back to duty immediately and instructed that no staff member leave their headquarters without prior approval.

This directive follows a high-level emergency preparedness meeting chaired by CM Patel at the State Emergency Operation Center in Gandhinagar. The meeting focused on bolstering security in border districts such as Kutch, Banaskantha, Patan, and Jamnagar, which share land and coastal boundaries with Pakistan. Measures discussed included activating evacuation plans, ensuring uninterrupted communication systems, and stockpiling essential supplies like food, water, and fuel .

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also engaged with CM Patel to assess Gujarat's preparedness as a border state. The Prime Minister sought details on the state's advance planning and provided necessary guidance, highlighting the central government's close monitoring of the situation .
