Delhi: Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal on Thursday described the latest Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms as a significant step toward achieving an Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India). He said the changes are designed to make India’s supply chains stronger, inclusive, and more resilient.
“Yesterday’s GST reforms are a step in the direction of ensuring an Atmanirbhar Bharat, an India which is self-sufficient, self-reliant, an India whose supply chains are self-reliant, an India that cares for every Indian,” Goyal said.
Emphasizing collective national resolve, the minister added, “One hundred and forty crore Indians are coming together with the vision of making India a Viksit Bharat by 2047, a developed and prosperous nation where everybody gets opportunities and participates in the growth story.”
Goyal noted that India is witnessing a “sea change” in confidence to take on larger challenges, highlighting the country’s ability to withstand global economic uncertainties. “India stands strong, India stands united. We have the confidence to weather many situations. We have done that in the past and will continue to do so in the future,” he said.
The reforms, which were approved in the recent GST Council meeting, are expected to simplify compliance, widen the tax base, and enhance revenue flows while ensuring ease of doing business. Officials said the measures will also encourage greater transparency and efficiency in the indirect tax framework.
