Kolkata, June 11 — A 23-year-old factory worker from Tripura, suffering from a brain haemorrhage and later complications of septicaemia, was given a new lease on life after being swiftly airlifted to Kolkata and transported to ESI Hospital, Joka, through a green corridor created by Kolkata Police on Tuesday.

The patient, Gourab Pal, had undergone emergency surgery at ESI Hospital in Tripura. However, when his condition worsened due to signs of septicaemia, doctors decided to transfer him to a better-equipped facility in Kolkata. The decision was made swiftly, and an air ambulance flew him to the city on Tuesday afternoon.

Mr. A. K. Sharma, Regional Director, ESIC, initiated the whole process, ensuring that all administrative and logistical measures were in place for the patient’s safe transfer.

In a coordinated effort, Dr. Nand Kishore Alva, Dean of ESIC Medical College, Joka, liaised with airport authorities and Kolkata Police to ensure a seamless transition. “KP helped us create a green corridor and the patient was brought to Joka from Dum Dum in just 55 minutes. He has been admitted to the neurosurgery CCU,” said Jayanta Karmakar, Deputy Medical Superintendent.

Dr. Alva confirmed that the patient is now in a stable and controllable condition. “He is responding well to treatment. We are thankful to Kolkata Police for facilitating the green corridor—it was crucial in saving his life,” he added.
