As part of the Stage IV measures under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) to combat severe air pollution in Delhi, several stringent actions are being implemented to curb the worsening air quality. These measures are aimed at reducing the pollution levels and ensuring that the city does not face a health crisis due to hazardous air quality.
One of the key measures is the restriction on the entry of non-essential trucks into Delhi. Only trucks that are LNG, CNG, electric, or BSVI diesel-powered are allowed to enter, while trucks carrying essential commodities or providing essential services are exempt. Additionally, Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) that are not registered in Delhi, except for electric, CNG, or BSVI diesel vehicles, will be prohibited from entering the city, again with exceptions made for those carrying essential goods or services.
Furthermore, there is a complete ban on all construction and demolition activities in the city. This includes prohibiting work on linear public projects such as highways, roads, flyovers, overbridges, power transmission lines, pipelines, and telecommunication infrastructure. The only exceptions to this are construction activities that are deemed necessary for the public interest, such as the development of essential infrastructure.
These measures are part of Delhi’s ongoing efforts to reduce air pollution and ensure the health and safety of its residents. With the city's air quality reaching hazardous levels, these steps are deemed essential to mitigate the effects of air pollution during the winter months when smog and poor air quality tend to be at their worst.
