By staff reporter: The United Kisan Morcha (SKM) has called for tractor marches across the country on Republic Day on Sunday and demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi discuss the pending demands with farmers.
Due to a number of requests from farmers, including a legal guarantee of the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops, Dallewal, the convener of SKM (Non-Political), has been on an extended hunger strike at the Khanauri border point between Punjab and Haryana since November 26 of last year. A meeting between SKM (Non-political) and KMM is scheduled for Monday to discuss demands, such as MSP and the elimination of the National Policy Framework on Agricultural Marketing (NPFAM), the SKM said in a statement released today.
The demands also call for the implementation of the LARR Act 2013, the provision of free electricity up to 300 units, the elimination of smart meters and the privatization of power, as well as a comprehensive loan waiver program for farmers and farm workers. Every SKM State Coordination Committee (SCC) will publish a request to burn copies of NPFAM in protest.
