Ambala, Haryana: In a scathing statement, farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher accused the Modi government of using physical force against farmers during a protest earlier today. Pandher alleged that the government used tear-gas shells and water cannons to disperse the protesters while senior officials, including the SP and DC of Ambala, were engaged in talks.
“Today, the Modi government used physical force on the farmers. Tear-gas shells and water cannons were used as the SP Ambala and DC Ambala were talking. Our camp and the people who came here in our support were attacked,” Pandher said, expressing his strong condemnation of the government's actions.
The confrontation occurred during a farmers' protest in Ambala, where farmers had gathered to voice their concerns over various issues, including agricultural policies and pending demands. Despite ongoing talks between the district administration and farmers' representatives, Pandher claimed that the use of force was unprovoked and targeted peaceful protesters.
The farmer leader emphasized the growing frustration among the farmers, accusing the government of failing to address their grievances through dialogue. He also criticized the security forces for resorting to force instead of engaging in constructive talks to resolve the issues at hand.
This incident has once again brought tensions between the farming community and the government to the forefront. Farmers' protests have been a significant feature of Indian politics in recent years, with widespread unrest over agricultural reforms, economic hardships, and perceived neglect of rural issues. The use of force against protesters has sparked fresh debates on the government’s approach to handling dissent.
As the situation continues to unfold, farmer unions are expected to escalate their demands for justice, while opposition parties are likely to highlight the use of force as an example of the government's authoritarian tendencies.
