ECI Orders CBDT To Cross-Check Rajeev Chandrashekhar's Affidavit

The order came after the Indian National Congress approached ECI against Union Minister Rajeev Chandrashekhar over alleged mismatch in actual and declared assets in his affidavit by Rajeev Chandrasekhar.

BY A STAFF REPORTER: The Election Commission of India directed the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) to cross-check and verify any mismatches in the affidavit details submitted by BJP's Thiruvananthapuram candidate Rajeev Chandrashekhar on April 9, Tuesday.

The order came after the Indian National Congress approached ECI against Union Minister Rajeev Chandrashekhar over alleged mismatch in actual and declared assets in his affidavit by Rajeev Chandrasekhar. Moreover, mismatch and falsification of affidavits are dealt with under Section 125 A of the Representation of People Act, 1951.

Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrashekhar is BJP's Candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Congress has fielded Shashi Tharoor against Chandrashekhar in Thiruvananthapuram. Furthermore, Rajeev Chandrashekhar represented the Karnataka constituency as a Rajya Sabha MP.
