Chandipur, Odisha: In a significant boost to India’s air defense capabilities, the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully conducted three successive flight trials of the Very Short-Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS). The trials took place from a testing facility in Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha.
The tests were carried out against high-speed aerial targets flying at very low altitudes, simulating real-world combat scenarios where quick response and precision are crucial. According to DRDO officials, all three trials met the mission objectives, demonstrating the system’s effectiveness, accuracy, and reliability under challenging conditions.
VSHORADS is a man-portable air defense system designed to neutralize low-flying aircraft, helicopters, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The system features advanced technologies, including a state-of-the-art infrared homing mechanism, optimized for high mobility and rapid deployment by ground forces.
