New Delhi, August 4: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed deep sorrow over the demise of former Jharkhand Chief Minister and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) founder Shibu Soren, describing him as a towering leader who dedicated his life to the empowerment of tribal communities and the marginalized sections of society.

In a heartfelt message posted on social media, Singh said, “The former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and one of the country's senior-most leaders, Shri Shibu Soren ji, was counted among the towering leaders of Jharkhand who struggled throughout their lives for the rights and empowerment of the weaker sections of society, especially the tribal community. He always remained connected to the land and the people.”

Rajnath Singh recalled his long association with Soren, highlighting his grassroots connect and unwavering commitment to social justice. “I had a long acquaintance with him. His passing has caused me great sorrow. My condolences to his family and supporters. Om Shanti!” he said.

Shibu Soren, popularly known as ‘Guruji’ among his followers, was a central figure in Jharkhand’s movement for statehood and a staunch advocate for tribal rights. His political journey spanned several decades, marked by his consistent efforts to uplift the socio-economic conditions of tribal populations and his repeated stints as Chief Minister of Jharkhand.
