In a major push towards self-reliance in defence manufacturing, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh, has cleared 10 capital acquisition proposals worth approximately ₹1.05 lakh crore. The approvals were granted on July 3, 2025, under the Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) category, highlighting the government’s strong emphasis on domestic procurement to strengthen national security and promote the Make in India initiative.

The Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) accorded by the DAC includes critical systems and platforms for the Indian Armed Forces. Among the approved procurements are Armoured Recovery Vehicles designed to assist damaged tanks in combat zones, state-of-the-art Electronic Warfare Systems to enhance battlefield superiority, and an Integrated Common Inventory Management System (ICIMS) that will standardize and streamline logistics across the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

Additionally, the council cleared the acquisition of advanced Surface-to-Air Missile systems, expected to significantly bolster India’s air defence capabilities in light of emerging regional threats.

These proposals are set to provide a major boost to the Indian defence industrial base, especially domestic private and public sector firms.
