Karnataka: Reacting to the Bengaluru court's approval for registering an FIR against Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and others, Adarsh Iyer, the complainant from Janadhikar Sangharsh Parishad (JSP), said, "The Supreme Court's order on electoral bonds, which mandated SBI to reveal data, led media outlets to uncover evidence suggesting a case of extortion."
Iyer explained, "We discovered it was a corruption case, where companies were forced to pay large sums through the misuse of power over ED and I-T officials. After a five-month wait, we are pleased with the court's decision to order an investigation under CrPC section 153."
According to the complaint, Sitharaman is listed as the primary accused, followed by ED officials, BJP office bearers, and state BJP leaders, including ex-president and current state chief BY Vijayendra. Iyer emphasized the significance of this development, stating, "This judgement is a landmark moment in our ongoing struggle for transparency in electoral funding. It reflects the judiciary's commitment to uphold accountability in governance."
He added, "The misuse of authority by those in power undermines democratic processes, and it is crucial that the rule of law prevails. Our party has consistently advocated for reform in electoral financing, and this case serves as a prime example of the need for systemic changes."
