New Delhi: Amid the Karnataka government's decision to increase reservation for minorities in housing schemes from 10% to 15%, political temperatures have risen sharply, with the Congress targeting the BJP over its stance on minority welfare.
Reacting to the development, senior Congress leader Sukhdeo Bhagat took a direct swipe at the BJP, accusing it of harboring an irrational aversion to the Congress legacy and of politicizing religion. “I had heard of hydrophobia. Since the Modi government has come to power, the BJP has developed a phobia of Gandhi, Nehru, and the Gandhi family,” Bhagat said during a press interaction in Delhi.
He further questioned the BJP's oft-repeated slogan, "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas," asking, “Are Muslims included in that promise or not? BJP always gets stuck on this Hindu-Muslim angle.”
Bhagat defended the Karnataka government’s move as a step toward social justice and inclusive development, arguing that expanding minority reservation in welfare schemes is essential for addressing historic socio-economic disadvantages.
