New Delhi: The Congress on Saturday sought an explanation from the government after reports emerged that Russia is supplying engines for Chinese-made JF-17 fighter jets to Pakistan. The party described the development as a setback for India’s strategic interests and called it a failure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s personalised brand of diplomacy.

Congress leaders emphasized that Russia had long been considered one of India’s most reliable strategic partners. They questioned how a key ally could provide military support to a neighbouring country with which India has longstanding security concerns. The party demanded clarity from the government on the measures being taken to safeguard India’s defence and strategic priorities.
