New Delhi | Following the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting, senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh announced the launch of a year-long Samvidhan Bachao Rashtriya Pad Yatra on January 26, 2025. The initiative, aimed at safeguarding constitutional values, comes after what Ramesh termed as the “revitalizing” effect of the Bharat Jodo Yatra on the Congress party.
“We believe that the Bharat Jodo Yatra gave 'Sanjeevani' (life-saving medicine) to the Congress and was a turning point in the party's politics,” Ramesh said, reflecting on the significance of the earlier nationwide march led by Rahul Gandhi. He added, “The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra further built momentum, and now we are set to embark on another transformative journey to protect the Constitution.”
The Samvidhan Bachao Rashtriya Pad Yatra will aim to address pressing concerns about the state of democratic institutions and constitutional values in India. The Congress plans to engage citizens nationwide, highlighting issues such as social justice, communal harmony, and economic inequality.
Sources indicate that the yatra will cover significant parts of the country, engaging diverse communities and spreading awareness about the importance of constitutional safeguards. Party leaders believe this initiative will further strengthen the Congress’ grassroots connections ahead of the 2025 state elections and the 2029 general elections.
The Bharat Jodo Yatra, launched in 2022, is widely credited with reinvigorating the Congress’ image and increasing public engagement. The announcement of the Samvidhan Bachao Yatra signals the party’s intention to maintain momentum through sustained outreach campaigns.
