Ahmedabad, Gujarat: In a sensational breakthrough, the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime unit has arrested a Chennai-based woman for allegedly orchestrating a spate of hoax bomb threats across multiple Indian states. The accused, identified as Reni Joshilda, was taken into custody following a high-tech investigation that traced her digital footprint to Chennai despite her use of the dark web to avoid detection.
According to Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Sharad Singhal, Reni Joshilda, a robotics expert and currently employed as a senior consultant at Deloitte, carried out the bomb threat campaign with the intent of framing a man she was obsessively in love with. The target, Divij Prabhakar, reportedly married another woman in February 2025, which triggered Joshilda to launch a digital vendetta.
“She created multiple fake email accounts in his name to send bomb threats anonymously across different states,” said Singhal. “Her operations were highly sophisticated, involving tools from the dark web to conceal her identity. However, a single error on her part allowed us to track her location and arrest her.”
Police departments from 11 states had been investigating similar threat patterns and are now collaborating with Ahmedabad authorities to probe the full extent of the operation. Authorities have seized extensive digital and paper evidence from Joshilda’s residence, indicating that she may have operated as part of a larger module.
